Before You Begin: Key Details About the PFAS Indicator

  • An ingredient may show as Unknown if there is insufficient scientific knowledge or regulatory direction to categorize it at this time.
  • PFAS chemicals may not always appear on a safety data sheet (SDS), especially if they’re present as cross-contaminants or below disclosure thresholds. At the same time, PFAS naming conventions can be complex and inconsistent, making them hard to spot manually. The PFAS Indicator helps surface ingredients that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Viewing the PFAS Indicator

When reviewing an ingredient list, the PFAS Indicator displays directly alongside flagged ingredients.

Navigate to the Product Summary > Ingredient Module of a product or formulation.

Each ingredient with a PFAS Indicator will display one of four visual statuses: Hazardous, Confirmed, Suspected, or Unknown.

Select the dropdown arrow or expand icon to see more context about an ingredient’s PFAS status. Any notes or classification details will appear in the expanded view.
