The EHS V5 platform calculates incident rates so that you can compare them across your locations, and with industry and national averages, such as those provided by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Here’s how you can access this data:
- To see it in a report format, select Monitor > View All Reports > Incident Reports > Health & Safety Statistics. For more information about the report, see Health and Safety Statistics report.
- To view it on the Dashboard, select the catalog icon in the Dashboard title bar and then select the Recordable Incident Rates web part.
These incident rates are comparable across locations because the rates are normalized values, meaning the location’s labor hours values are multiplied by a standard factor to make them comparable regardless of location size and time period.
The report and web part options let you set the factor because:
- In the US, for OSHA-reporting establishments, the factor is 200,000 – the average / expected number of hours worked by 100 people for a year (50 weeks in a year x 40 hours/week).
- In Australia, the factor is 1,000,000 – the average / expected number of hours worked by 500 people for a year (50 weeks in a year x 40 hours/week)
- In the UK, the factor can be 1,000,000 (as in Australia), and a different calculation (involving workers rather than labor hours) is used.
Rates
To access the document with detailed information regarding the rates for incidents, labor hours, and related rates, select Incident Rates to download the document.
For all of the rates calculations in the document:
- Only incidents marked with either the Injury type or Occupational Illness type (or both) are included.
- All incidents and labor hours are filtered by the selected time period.
- When calculating the Employee or Contractor rate, only employee or contractor labor hours are used, and only employee or contractor injuries/illnesses are included.
Targets
Incident Rate Targets help you compare actual rates to a historical benchmark or a desired target. You can set targets for months, quarters, or years.
There are two available rates:
- Recordable incident rate
- Lost workday incident rate
Because you set these targets, you can use them for any purpose you see fit. However, our intention is that:
- the recordable incident rate target will align with the Recordable Injury/Illness Rate (see description above)
- the lost workday incident rate target will align with the Lost Time Case Rate (see description above)
Reports and Web Parts for Targets
Two reports can display these targets alongside the calculated rates:
- Health and Safety Statistics
- 12-Month Rolling Incident Rate Over Time
To access these reports, select Monitor > View All Reports > Incident Reports > [report name].
There are no dashboard web parts that show Incident Rate Targets.
