Thanks for your feedback!
In 2018, the Mexican Secretariat of Labor and Social Welfare published an ergonomics standard, NOM-036-1-STPS-2018, with the objective of identifying, analyzing, preventing, and controlling occupational risk factors associated with manual material handling in the workplace. The Official Mexican Standard went into effect at the beginning of 2020.
All companies that have facilities in Mexico should be familiar with NOM-036, as they are required to comply with the regulations in the standard. Failure to do so can lead to fines up to $500,000 pesos (~$22,000 USD) per employee.
NOM-036 applies to all workplaces where manual material handling activities, such as lifting/lowering, pushing/pulling, or carrying, occur routinely (more than once per day) and where loads weighing 3 kg (6.6 lb) or more are manually handled per person. In addition, NOM-036 has set in place maximum load limits that are age- and gender-specific.
