While the bulk of the work involved in management of change occurs outside the software, the VelocityEHS Accelerate MOC capability provides a way to document and track changes in a streamlined manner, all from the Change Requests page.
Video Overview
For a quick introduction, watch the following video to see how Change Requests are managed within the MOC capability in Accelerate.
On this page, you can:
- View all change requests or only those that have been assigned to you
- Filter change requests by category, status, change type, location, initiation date, and currently responsible party
- Sort change requests: select a column heading to sort in ascending or descending order
- Select a Change Request Number to go to that change request record
- Select a change request Status to see where the record is currently in the change request process
- Select Add New to start a new change request
Change Types
In Accelerate, you can categorize operational changes for better tracking and reporting with the following change types:
- Process technology – manufacturing processes, including operating manuals, product processes, batch packets, etc., for the technical basis for the process design and operation, process chemistry, raw materials, design/actual capacities, relief system design, etc.
- Procedure – written instructions including administration, operations, maintenance, inspections, safety and health, environmental, and engineering procedures
- Chemical – new chemicals not used in the manufacturing process, including maintenance materials, utility materials, lab reagents, etc.
- Equipment – equipment involved in the plant processes, including piping, vessels, instrumentation, utilities, etc., including construction materials, equipment specifications, arrangements, etc.
- Staffing – coverage provided to operate and support the process, including the impact that staffing levels provide as safeguards to prevent process incidents
- Facilities – support facilities, including buildings and structures associated with the process, fire protection, ventilation equipment, etc.
Change Request Categories
A change request in Accelerate can take one of three different tracks:
A permanent change stays in place for the life span of the affected process or procedure.
Example: Regular equipment maintenance, like replacing a valve on a tank.
A temporary change is designed to only be in place for a predetermined amount of time, after which the design is typically reverted to the original, but can be made permanent instead.
Example: Two fuel pumps move product through a facility and one requires maintenance. A temporary bypass valve must be installed until the failing fuel pump can be repaired and reinstalled.
An emergency change is intended to be put in place immediately in an emergency situation. This abbreviated process skips over the initial approval process to allow for quick action when necessary. An emergency change can also be made permanent, if needed.
Example: A crack has developed in a fuel tank causing gasoline to leak.
